Longhorn Steers

I think I am a little crazy, but crazy is good. Right? Awhile back I said I was going to get some longhorns for the pasture...well they arrived the other day. Here they are.

NEW BLOG LOOK!!!

I have been playing around with my blog forever tonight. Over two hours I tried to get this header to work, which I couldn't. I ended up taking the picture into Word. I added a text box then I grabbed the picture and saved it all as a tiff picture. The tiff didn't work either, so I finally saved it as a jpeg and posted it. Anyways, it was fun and I hope you enjoy!!! I also have a very huge crush on OWLS at the moment. Don't ya love them!

SAN FRANCISCO

Alcatraz from the shores of San Francisco Bay.
The Golden Gate bridge, which is painted international orange, is very impressive. On the walkway can feel the cables shake, move and vibrate.

In order for Alcatraz Island to have water, this water tower had to be filled every two days by barge.
Bryan in Solitary confinement at Alcatraz.

We smelled them at first, then we saw them. At Pier 39, these sea lions took over several docks.

Moose Hunting Trip 2009

This is the almost 50 inch spread moose. From left to right is Uncle Joe, Brendon, Bryan and me (Emily). We hiked about 6 miles before spotting the moose on the Valley floor. Needless to say I wasn't to impressed when we turned and ran down the hill we had just breathlessly hiked. I was however impressed that I could somewhat keep up the boys. Nothing slows them down when they are in the adrenaline rushed hunter sense. So Joe, Brendon and I ran down. Bryan was the spotter on the hill. Almost an hour later the three of us where in the middle of three moose and one cow. The poor thing. The moose in the picture was pushing the two other moose out when Joe took the shot. Proceeded by Brendon then Joe and so on. I never have been that close to a moose. He had his winter coat already and it was about 5 inches long in some spots. It takes a lot longer to quarter out a moose than a deer. Added to the mix was that we had to keep an eye out for bears and wolves. Then what freaked me out more is that we had to pack this huge animal out on our BACKS!!! Crazy guys. We finally made it back to camp at about 7:30 - 8 pm and died. We all decided after one we were done. We packed up and left camp two days later. Thanks boys for letting me tag along!

This is me packing out the antlers and everything from the boys packs that needed to stay clean. The antlers were probably between 35-40lbs. The total pack was maybe 50 lbs. That was almost a third of my body weight. I made sure I kept my rifle with me too, I wasn't going to let a bear get close to me.

Assessing the spread. Congratulations JOE!!!

Moose Hunt Continued

I don't have any great pictures of our trip into camp yet, but let me tell you it was ride. Went through bog after bog, wenching our selfs through all the while this wet slushy snow was pouring down on us. I had never been so muddy in my life, so I was not able to take out my camera. The picture I do have of the mud is the day we came out. You can see Bryan's Uncle Joe driving his ATV and trailer through a massive mud puddle. Funny how we had to wench through it on the way in, but on the way out it was partially frozen. Much better to get through the second time. The other picture is of the four of us packing up camp.

This picture is our first day of hunting and the morning after our long long journey into camp. It was cold! I think it snow almost 2 inches.

Moose Hunt Continued

Amazing amazing scenery!
If you look close, you can see that the creek next to our camp started to freeze. We filled our pots up with slush.

The three boys (Bryan, Joe & Brendon) glassing the area.

This is a picture of my hand in the grizzly bear tracks. Joe and Brendon spook about 2 minutes away from our camp on the first day of hunting.
This was our late evening hike at the foothills of Mt. Baker.
